A phrase often used for all sorts of circumstances and the Government Members come to my mind. It is inevitable that we Senior Citizens seem to come into the Government firing line when they want to get more money. The Government has exploited every possible avenue and some bright spark has come up with the idea of rescinding the Bus Pass and Television Licence and anything else we old ones have worked for. This was offered by the same Government who now have come up with an excuse that they wish to give the younger generation a chance in life’s unfortunate system of Government that we all have to suffer as they chase their thin tails in ever decreasing circles.
Now when I was young, the Government never suggested anything like that to me or anyone else of my age group, so that we could have a step up on the greasy ladder of life. No! Far from it – we had to suffer under a different load of Conservatives who had no idea on how to stay in touch with the public on what our needs were.
What is the definition of the word “Govern?” The Conservatives mean it to be a Carousal that they can ride on for ever and make ludicrous suggestions that we should pay and pay as long as it doesn’t apply to them and how many Members of Parliament do you know that will answer a question given to them honestly? They tend to evade the question completely and therefore you know instinctively they are lying.
Recently a Minister has stated in a Daily Newspaper “Why should pensioners sell their homes to pay for their health care?” As in the script of “Yes Minister” Mr Appleby would state ‘It was a very brave statement’ and the Minister in question will probably get overlooked when promotion is offered. You can’t say that – you mustn’t offer hope to those that need help – it is unheard of – they would probably say to him and issue a statement with some feeble excuse.
We all know that nothing comes free and in our society we don’t expect it, but it would be nice to have a Government that doesn’t ride on a Carousal and also think that the rules do not apply to them, but live at ground level with the rest of us mortals
